Elsie Monida Bacayo was the eldest child of a farmer’s family. She was a compassionate and loving wife and mother. She raised four children with her husband, Arnold, and worked very hard to give them a better life than what she had experienced. Throughout her life, Elsie showed a special warmth to all those she met and welcomed them with her beautiful smile. Sadly, Elsie passed away on 17 September 2017 after an extended illness.

Elsie worked with us for three years and was an alumna of MPI’s Annual Peacebuilding Training. She was a model peacebuilder in a simple but profound way. She internalized the values of a peacebuilder—a culture of peace, love, and respect for life—and lived these to the fullest. To honor Elsie as a person and peacebuilder, the Mindanao Peacebuilding Institute (MPI) has chosen to establish the Elsie M. Bacayo Annual Peacebuilding Training Scholarship Fund to enable peacebuilders to participate in MPI’s Annual Peacebuilding Training.

We thank you in advance for your support. Your generous contribution will enable deserving peace advocates from the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond to gain peacebuilding knowledge and skills.
