North East India Peace Award conferred to Fr. Dr. C. P. Anto

The 7th North East India Peace Award 2019 was being conferred to Fr. Dr. C. P. Anto on 7th December 2019 at Christ School, Nongsder, Umiam, Shillong, Meghalaya. The North East Peace Award is an initiative of Christ School International, Meghalaya and KKLL Foundation, Guwahati, Assam since 2012. The main purpose of presenting this award is to bring to limelight the works and achievements of the grass root personalities in North East. The main objective of the North East India Peace Award (NEIPA) is to motivate the youth and bring a positive change in the mindset of people to create a better North East, India. 

Dr. D. D. Lapang (Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya) conferred the Award 2019 to Rev. Dr. C. P. Anto during an annual function organized by Christ School International Shillong and KKLL Foundation, Guwahati. The Managing Trustee of KKLL Mr. D. Loyi addressed the gathering and the Chairman, Selection Committee Dr. C. Varghese read the citation during the award ceremony and has appreciated the Awardee for initiating the peace movement called Peace Channel and Establishing first Master of Social Work Institute for promoting Peace and Conflict studies in India. He as been doing a commendable job in promoting inter-faith harmony in Nagaland. His intervention in peace building has surpassed the boundaries of tribes, caste and region. He also appreciated the contribution of the catholic missionary to the state of Nagaland and in the region.

Speakers, Guests and Honorees at award ceremonyDr. D. D. Lapang, the chief guest in his address appreciated the initiative of the organizer for promoting the grassroots initiative of the people. It will certainly bring a positive impact in the life of our people. Peace Channel has been working directly with children educating them to be the peace builders, makers and promoters of peace in the families and communities respectively. Peace Channel has been educating over 15000 (one lakh fifty thousand) children & youth on Peace Education and over 1000 (thousand) Teachers trained as peace educators and around 500 are trained to be the trainers for peace education and peer mediation. He also appreciated the awardees for their relentless hard work to make the positive changes they make in the society.

Honorees and guests at award ceremonyAs a response to the award Rev. Dr. C. P. Anto appreciated both Christ School International and KKLL Foundation for introducing this noble initiative to appreciate and encourage the grassroots social workers. He also appreciated Peace Channel family for their hard work and team spirit for working towards making Nagaland the most peaceful state by 2030. Looking at the current situation of Human Rights violation of children and women, he dedicated his award to the victims of violence and cash award was put as a scholarship for educating the less privileged children in the society.

He also mentioned that one of the causes of violence is today is that, “People are created to be loved and things are created to be used but we see things are being loved and people are being used, so he exhorted over 500 dignitaries and delegates who were present to stand for non-violence, acceptance and respect of human dignity and thus work together to make a beloved community where love, understanding and forgiveness reign.
